Learning Portuguese

I’ve been playing close attention to how Ella is learning Portuguese and English.

She used to mix quite a bit, but in the past few months, whenever she talks to me, it’s mostly in Portuguese. When she uses an English word while we talk, I repeat her sentence using the Portuguese word and she quickly picks up. She uses the Portuguese word in the next sentence. She also only talks to Rhys in Portuguese.

I’ve been wondering if she’s figured out that these are two different languages and last week, I’ve realized that she has.

She said “mamãe, eu quero água.” Since I was busy with something else, I told her to ask dad. She turns to Diesel and says “daddy, I want water.”

Impressive!
