Ho Chi Minh City

We got into HO Chi Minh City aka Saigon last night at about 7:00pm. Valentine’s Day was in the middle of wrecking havoc on the traffic and it took us about 45 minutes to go the last 2 kms as literally thousands of scooters clocked every inch of the road in every conceivable direction going  every which way. We were told to expect an increase in scooter traffic by a factor of 100 and they weren’t lying. It really is a spectacular sight. The taxi driver told my parents that the population was 9 million with 6 million of them owning their own scooter. It certain,y shows.

After a brief walk to the hotel and then we set off for food.  A few minutes later and we’re off looking for food, which meant walking about 200 meters and then discovered several streets of curbside dining. We  sat down at the 3rd or 4th place we saw and plunged into grilled chicken and pork with Vietnamese pancake, all wrapped in rice paper with lettuce basil and chives and dipped in spicy fish saucy. Everything had so much flavor and taste and we were again to be in Vietnam.

On another note, my parents arrived last night from Phoenix along with about 10 lbs of goodies from the states including Cheetos, Doritoes, homemade choclate chip cookies, magazines and about 5 lbs of cheese, glorious cheese…oh and 2 bottles of CA wine.
