What to Pack?

What do you pack for a year-long trip?  Diesel and I have been pondering that question for several months, visiting sports/outdoors stores websites and stores, trying on clothes, etc.

Oddly enough, several people have asked us how we are packing for this trip.  We each get one backpack.  Here’s a pic of all the stuff that’s in my backpack, taken last night, right before I stuffed everything in my bag:

kelly-485

Inventory (20 pounds total carrying weight):

Light fleece

Rain jacket

Long sleeve running top

2 pairs of pants (one full length, one capri) + long underwear, which will double as leggings

Dress (from target, quick dry and cheap if I want to get rid of it)

1 pair of trail runners + flip flops, + bailerina flats (no sole, but cute)

3 tank tops + 2 short sleeve shirts

running shorts, bra and top

meds and toiletries

lightweight, foldable day backpack + small purses

Sony ebook and iPod

Quick dry towel

For when I get cold (which I inevitably do):  gloves, hat, heat pads

Packing folder

Cheap sunglasses

3 bras + * pairs of underwear (I cannot compromise here!) 6 pairs of running socks + 2 thicker smartwool socks, all in a compressor bag

2 backpack locks

copies of passpord and credit cards

waterproof travel journal (thanks Daish!)
